Net accessibility

In today’s world many people spent half of their life on the internet. Connecting and engaging through “social networks” is now part of our everyday lives as discussed in this newspaper article.

Challenges exist for people with disabilities in their ability to use social media sites such as facebook. At the company “Lebenshilfe” we see that the software can be very complicated for people with disabilities. In Austria there are 1.7 million people who suffer from permanent disabilities as reported in the national action plan disability. According to a study over 50 percent of people with physical disabilities use internet regularly, while over 70 percent of people with intellectual disabilities have no experience with the internet.

The accessibility of the internet must be improved in order to not exclude individuals with disabilities, in other words: We must be more inclusive.
