Healthcare in Austria
Due to everyday stress and the fast pace of life the topic of health is often overlooked, particularly the topic of preventative health measures. Many Austrians are not aware of when certain screenings and vaccinations are recommended. People are also often not aware which healthcare procedures are covered by health insurance.
Although Statistics Austria stresses that preventative healthcare measures can help individuals avoid illnesses and the high medical costs associated with illness, the amount of funding from public health expenses for health promotion and prevention is very low, amounting to only approximately 2% at times. Preventative healthcare can improve many indicators such as the average life expectancy, the mortality rate associated with cervical cancer, and treatment of high blood pressure.
It would be the first step in the direction of a healthier population to be better informed about the availability of health prevention and to be able to access prevention measures more deliberately.
