Practical Hackathon Information
FAQs on the Hackathon
WHAT IS A HACKATHON?
A hackathon is a gathering of creative minds (students, programmers and other interested people) for the purpose of planning, designing and creating prototypes of smart digital solutions for societal challenges together in 48 hours.
THIS SOUNDS LIKE SO MUCH FUN! HOW DO I SIGN UP?
You can sign up by visiting our sign-up page by clicking here!
MAY I COME WITHOUT A TEAM TO THE EYA HACKATHON?
Sure! We encourage and invite you to come alone so you can collaborate with new friends and peers that may have different skills. However, you can also come with your friends as team.
I DON’T KNOW HOW TO CODE… CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?
Although having basic computer skills is helpful, coding experience is not necessary. Anyone from designers, developers, artists, business students and team supporters are welcome to join! Even if you have no experience at all, you can still contribute ideas, create a marketing concept and even give moral support to your team. The most important thing is: HAVE FUN!
WHAT SHOULD I BRING MYSELF?
Creativity, good humor and motivation! In addition, please bring your laptop or tablet and periphery (mouse, keyboard, headphones, character pad, joystick, etc), all necessary cables and adapters and whatever you think you might need.
ARE THERE ANY WORKSTATIONS?
We do not provide computers on site. Please bring your own laptop. You can of course use the wifi at the FH Salzburg. For the presentation, we provide a projector and speakers – in case you have a Mac – do not forget your adapter!
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO FINISH?
Participants will have 48 hours to work together and create something that has never been created before.
IS THERE A THEME THAT MY PROJECT WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW?
Yes! All developers are challenged to create products based on our Hackathon topic: “Digital and tangible Projects in Social Space”. Further information on specific problem areas will be published before the Hackathon.
ARE THERE ANY LIMITATIONS CONCERNING THE TECHNOLOGY TO BE USED?
No, you are free to develop your project on any platform and with any kind of technology you prefer.
However, out of all teams using Virtual Reality technologies the best will be invited to participate in the Final Championship of the Global VR Hackathon organized by VRCORE in China in October.
The best team which developed a mobile application will get the invitation to particpate in the mYouth Continental App Camp Europe taking place in Salzburg from July 10 to 15 and meet 12 other coding enthusiasts from Macedonia, Poland and Romania. All info can be found here.
