Thomas  is a full Professor for Geoinformatics at the University of Salzburg, Co-Director, Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, Director of Doctoral College GIScience, and vice-president of the Society for Geoinformatics, GeoIT & Navigation. His academic achievements include 360 publications, several academic prices and awards including the Christian-Doppler Prize 1995 and was elected as a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2015. He also initiated the foundation of the first spin-off company of the University of Salzburg and acts as a business angel and mentor for several startups in Austria and Germany. Currently, he is involved as shareholder in nine companies which are all between zero and three years old. With one exception, they all build on geospatial information and services including Earth observation, GNSS, spatial analytics and location based services including indoor location services. Professor Blaschke is also shareholder of startup300, the largest private startup accelerator programme in Austria and member of professional business angel and technology transfer organisations.
