Diplomatic Adviser from Morocco to the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean in Barcelona, Meriem works closely in the Division of Social and Civil Affairs, whose objective is to advance the regional agenda on Youth and Women empowerment while developing concrete initiatives and projects aiming for the socio-economic integration of young people and women in both shores of the Mediterranean region.
The Secretariat of the UfM is determined to understand and respond to the region’s population needs with the active participation of Youth to promote human, social and economic development. A strong emphasis is placed on youth employability by bridging the gap between the education offer and the labour demand. Particular attention is given to providing the region’s women with a stronger role in society, paving the way for women empowerment and gender equality.
Meriem had also worked as Vice Consul in Strasbourg on cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Council of Europe. As a diplomat, Meriem first dealt with Euro-Mediterranean cooperation dossiers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rabat after having completed her training at the Moroccan Academy of Diplomatic Studies and obtained a Master in Management Sciences. Prior to joining the Moroccan Diplomatic Corps, she founded and represented several networks of young people active in the fields of entrepreneurship and social innovation, civic engagement and public policy analysis.
