Jak Boumans works as Principal Consultant for Electronic Media Reporting, an electronic publishing consultancy specialised in content strategy, based in Almere, the Netherlands. He has been active in publishing since 1970 and started to specialise in electronic publishing from 1980. In 1984, he launched the first online version of a daily newsletter for the computer industry in Europe – for VNU in London. In 1990, Jak started Electronic Media Reporting, performing strategy studies, doing market scans, executing project audits for the European Commission and organising conferences and workshops.
Jak has published many articles in Dutch, English, French and German on new media, contributed to the book E-Content: Technologies and Perspectives for the European Market (Springer, 2004) and co-edited High Performance Multimedia (IOS Press, 2008). He wrote a Dutch language book on the history of digital media in The Netherlands. Jak is Secretary General of the European Academy of Digital Media (EADiM), a network consisting of 125 multimedia experts in 28 European countries. In 2003 he was one of the founding fathers of the World Summit Award in e-Content and Creativity. As self-appointed curator of Pre-Internet he collects archives, artefacts, articles, books and CD-media of the Dutch Pre-Internet period (1967-1997).
