The Onsite Grand Jury of the European Youth Award was excited to meet in Larnaca, Cyprus, from September 22-24, 2016 to evaluate the projects of the final list! 16 international experts selected the Winners of #EYA16. EYA is most grateful to its host and partner, The Republic Of Cyprus – Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism – and Digital Champion of Cyprus.
Larnaca is Cyprus’ oldest soul; the longest continually inhabited region of the island, with a history that dates back 10,000 years, and the most centrally positioned, offering easy access to other regions. The city of Larnaca is located on the southern coast of Cyprus and is the countries third largest city and home to the second largest commercial port. 51.000 people are living in Larnaca.
The city is divided into two parts namely, an older city center and a chain of hotels and restaurants along the beach, known as the ‘Phinikoudes’.
Larnaca is an area of outstanding beauty – endowed with numerous attractions, waterfronts and scenic vistas as well as some of the islands most outstanding beaches. The climate is typically Mediterranean that has significant differences in the seasons. Summers are very joyful with warm and dry weather and the winters are rainy and mild.
It is believed that Larnaca has a continuous history extending for 4000 years. After Roman times the city became the main port of the island.Today, the locals of Larnaca have developed a modern outlook whilst still maintaining many traditions and upholding their hospitality and welcoming attitude towards visitors.
