Max Mohammadi won EYA 2015 with “Complex Disease Detector” in the category Healthy Life and  talked exclusively with us about his succsess:

1. What was your motivation / intention to invent the Complex Disease Detector?
Every year more than 17 million people die from heart disease worldwide which is more than ANY other disease category. In fact, the main cause of death in most cases is LATE diagnosis and lack of obvious symptoms (signs of the disease). This necessitates early diagnostics of heart disease (detection of the disease). In simple words, most of the people don’t know they are sick until it’s too late. Some people even die before even knowing that. And that is exactly what how our innovation started. We lost our grandmother because of a heart attack. She didn’t have any signs or symptoms of the disease beforehand.

2. How would you describe Detector in three sentences?
Complex Disease Detector is an accurate, non-invasive and inexpensive tool for screening & early diagnosis of heart diseases. By applying our unique artificial intelligence approach, it offers a great decision support tool to the doctors which can lead to early diagnosis of heart diseases. With its data mining and machine learning approach, Complex Disease Detector also helps patients to discover whether they suffer from heart disease, even if they have no apparent symptoms.

3. The more patients are tested by the detector, the more accurate it becomes. How many persons are tested till now?
Complex Disease Detector is more than just an idea! It’s an award-winning invention which has been tested with more than 700 individuals successfully.

4. You won the European Youth Award 2015 in the category “Healthy Life”. Can you describe your experience? What were the most valuable things you learnt for your project?
We believe that EYA was a unique opportunity to present our life-changing project at a European level. EYA provided an incredible platform by gathering innovative projects and makes a bridge between young entrepreneurs and experienced leaders.
Getting to know young entrepreneurs and the challenges which young entrepreneurs are facing was a valuable outcome of EYA. In addition to that, getting valuable feedbacks from experienced and senior professionals helped us refine the roadmap for our innovation.

5. What do you think are the major factors of your success?
If your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough! The very first factor of success is to find a vision in your life. It’s very important to have clear vision, because you know what you want from your life and who you want to be.
By knowing the vision, it’s important to trust yourself and step towards realizing your vision and not to get paralyzed by the fear of failure. A lot of people don’t start doing anything because they are afraid of failure.
We believe the most important factor of success is hardworking. By working hard, you can move on and get to your vision. Nothing will be achieved except by hardworking. Hardworking is completed by pushing your limit and taking risks. We think the success starts where our limitations end.

6. How did your project further develop after EYA 2015? Did you receive any other awards?
Complex Disease Detector has greatly progressed in its development since EYA 2015 which have resulted in winning several other awards. Some examples include:
Winner of EIT CHANGE Award, Recognized as Europe’s best young Entrepreneurial talent
Total winner, Venture Cup öst, Sweden
Gold pitch winner, Venture Cup, Sweden

7. What are your plans for the future?
Our goal is to make this innovation accessible for every individual on the planet to help them become aware of their heart health which can lead to early heart disease detection and prevention. Our vision is to save at least 1 million lives each year!
So as the next step, we are developing an affordable physical product (health gadget).
In fact, it is an accurate tool for screening heart status and early diagnosis of the of heart disease by measuring specific data points from a person, applying our proprietary artificial intelligence algorithm and providing insight about heart status.
In next few years, we see our product is widely used in both developed and developing countries.

8. Do you have any tips or advice for all the other young social entrepreneurs and start-ups to bring their projects on the success track?
We all have a lot of boundaries, but from our point of view, success starts where your boundaries end.”
