Games and Apps for Society:
The world needs You(th)

In 2016 for the second time, EYA invited people with all kinds of backgrounds (programmers, game designers, artists, business students or others interested in being innovative and creating something new) to plan, design and create games or apps together in 48 hours.
In cooperation with JamToday and in the framework of the mYouth project, EYA organized another two and a half days long game and app creation marathon at the FH Joanneum in Graz, Austria. The EYA game jam focused on Jam Today’s special topic Learning Mathematics and Heartbeat for the World – as Graz, Schladming and Ramsau were the host cities of the Special Olympics World Winter Games in 2017.

Games and Apps 2016
The Mathemagician – First place
Producers: Thomas Haller (Programming), Stefan Putzinger (Music and Sound effects), Matthias Rauch (Programming, 3D and Animation), Manfred Rohrer (Artwork and Textures)
Platform: Unity

Short description:
The God of Mathematics challenges the Wizard Cosinus to collect the lost crystals in the magical forgotten forest of Algebra.
Help Cosinus to solve the mathematical challenges and bring the correct crystals to the shrine.
Pass the Hearts! – Second place
Producers: Žiga Pavlovič
Platform: Windows 8, 8.1, 10; Kinect v2 (for Windows or xBox with PC attachment)

Short description:
The concept of the game is to go with the spirit of passing the torch of Special Olympics, but this time it’s passing as many hearts, a motive of special Olympics, as possible in a time limit to the other basket.
The playing field is too big for just one person (certain tricks make it harder for one person) so multiple people (max 6) can participate and create a passing chain so that more hearts can pass safely.
The game is easy to learn, provides emergent gameplay opportunities and is physical in nature. Graphics can be changed to accommodate branding opportunities.
Heart of the City – Third place
Producers: Oliver Kletzmayr, Georg Steinfelder
Platform: Android

Short description:
There is a secret place in the city you need to reveal if you want to find the treasure. But you can’t get to it when you are on your own. You have to achieve it together with many other players. There are secret locations all over the city. Every location has a heart that beats faster the closer you get – listen to it and the heartbeat will guide you. Find hearts and activate them with an app (NFC). Once every location in the town is activated the final secret place will be revealed on the map. Go there and celebrate with the other players.
Players are tracked via GPS. Secret locations might be activated via NFC-Pads.
Heart Beats
Producers: Stefanie Horvath, Markus Thomas Lienbacher, Narges Mohammad, Clemens Rant, Peter Zotter
Platform: OSX; Android + iOS

Short description:
Heartbeats – Feel the rhythm in your heart is a thrilling mobile game for musically players. The correct heart rhythm must be found. Only those who tap the screen in the perfect groove will produce the rhythm of the heart.
The heart sends out positive waves when it is in time with the music. But being out of rhythm, the heart will show its dark side – little black hearts will make us sick. But life isn’t always beer and skittles, sometimes the beat changes, but with a lot of love and some sense of rhythm it also creates 140 bpm or more.
A big game for all ages – bring the heart to the beat to beat!
Keep cool Badger
Producers: Boris Fehringer, Florian Hasenhüttl, Mathias Lehnfeld, Carole Massart, Patrick Promitzer
Platform: Unity (prototype on Android)

Short description:
The player finds himself in the role of the main character in a 2D game where he is chased by enemies. The main character starts running away automatically and it depends on the player if the escape is successful.
The player’s heart rate controls the speed of the main character: The lower the heart rate, the faster the main character runs. So the player has to keep a clear head if he wants to win.
Funky Flatline
Producers: Martin Haindl, Jennifer Höll, Katrin Höllebauer, Nadine Killmeyer, Sebastian Sammer, Sebastian Seidl

Short description:
In Funky Flatline Hans had a car accident and is severely injured. You have to drive Hans to the hospital to save his life. Be careful to keep track of his heart beat to reanimate him. And watch out! There are some enimies which try to keep you from saving him.
Maybe you can also find some hidden secrets.
